Now that I don't have to worry about humidity wrecking my blowout, I'm wearing my hair straight. But, there's still one area that I have to watch out for—the shower. Sometimes, even when I wear a shower cap, some of the moisture creeps in and puffs up my hair. Thanks to the Shhhowercap ($43), this issue is a thing of the past.
In order to create the perfect shower cap—which, in my opinion, this one is—the brand's founder Jacquelyn De Jesu Center began asking everyone she knew about their shower cap qualms. "This is when I learned all of the specific things that turned women off from using them altogether," she writes on the brand's website. "Everyone had their own annoyance with the shower caps that existed." Then, she used that intel to make something better.
The Shhhowercap is made from a nano-tech fabric that repels water, meaning that water beads up and rolls off the second it hits the outside, so it doesn't ever get wet and gross the way many other shower caps do. The fabric is also anti-microbial, so you don't have to worry about mold or mildew. Plus, it's breathable, keeping water and humidity out without feeling like it's suffocating my scalp. This gives it an additional one-up on plastic shower caps, which trap heat and can make you sweat out your style if your head gets warm in the shower.
The cap is lined with a rubber grip (made from the same material used on strapless bras!) to hold it securely in place and protect your hairline from water, and is fitted with a high-quality elastic that holds its shape without leaving dents on your forehead. And aside from being incredibly functional, the Shhhowercap is also super chic. Shaped like a turban, the cap will have you feeling like royalty every time you wear it. It comes in a variety of colors and prints so you can get one that suits your taste.
As someone who often wears my 4C hair straight, a shower cap is a non-negotiable tool in my beauty kit. I've been using them religiously for as long as I can remember, and the Shhhowercap is by far the best one I've ever used. I take steaming-hot showers (I know hot showers are bad for your skin, but I loooove them!) and Shhhowercap keeps my hair dry and bone straight. Once I get out of the shower, I use my towel to remove any residual water around the edge and pull the cap off to reveal hair that looks just as good as it did when I got in the shower.
